Team Canada Women

Current IIHF ranking: 2

The Team Canada Women ice hockey team (Team Canada) represents Canada in numerous IIHF International competitions including the Olympics (every 4 years), and the World Championships (every year). The first sanctioned worldwide championship event occurred in 1990 in the city of Ottawa, Ontario. Currently, the Canadian and American teams are at another level when compared to other countries.

Olympics

Women’s hockey became an official Olympic sport in 1998, which was won by the American squad. The past two Olympic events in 2002 and 2006 have been won by Team Canada. With the Olympic games taking place on home soil, expectations are very high for this Canadian squad.

World Championships

The Women’s World Ice Hockey Championships began in 1990, but unlike the Men’s competition, the championships were not held every year. Due to the growing popularity in the sport, a World Championship/Olympic event has taken place each year since 2004. Team Canada last took gold in this event in 2007, but has come close the last two years with silver medals.
